I just purchased these pewter money clasps on ebay for $1.25 plus shipping. I have no idea if the coins are real or I just threw my money away. The seller did not have an image of the reverse, so I am buying blind. But, hey, how much can I loose, eh? If they turn out to be authentic, I will try to release them from their prisons. If not, I have a couple of money clasps. What do you think?

Good luck JW! Does that big one look a little Nero-esk?

Yes, I would say so. Perhaps Alexandria?

I hope they are you, if so that's the best deal I've seen in a very long time.

You have to have two feeling about these. In this case I would prefer fakes to be used, because it would be a waste of genunie coins.
On the other hand if they were fakes, the use of them here would be OK, except that I can't condone to existence of fakes in the first place.
I suppose that the best thing to do is just enjoy them, and not even bother to even find out if they ARE fakes! That would be OK if they have been hard soldered into the bezels.

They cost less than the shipping JW, how could you go wrong? Plus when your out styling, they'd be a conversation starter for sure!

Real or fake, they should be left in the mounts. Removed they become damaged coins of questionable status. As is they are jewelry showing an interest in antiquity and worth more than the damaged coins will be either way. I hope they are fakes, too.
Look for Nero in Antioch.

You may be correct about the damage, but my intent when I bought these were to "bust" them out if I can do it without too much damage. I have no need or interest in the money clasps, especially two.

In the infamous words of Nancy Polosi regarding the health care law: "we'll have to wait' till we get it "to see what's in it".

We3ll, I'm not surpirsed. I took a chance and lost. I popped the larger "coin" out of the clasp and low and behold it's just a fake with nothing on the back side. I wasted my $1.25 and I don't know how I will ever get over it!

I would not say that it was a "waste" (you are probably being sarcastic...I hope). Did you get a thrill out of the ordeal? I am pretty sure someone did, other than myself, and I found this thread to be entertaining.
