After spending more time looking at it, I'm fairly convinced it's MD.. Oh well...

Those of you that don't see doubling... I'm not trying to be rude because I really do value everyone's opinion.. But you really don't see the doubling at the top-right of the 1, 9, 7, and on top of and in the middle of the 0?

Oh wait.. I think I know why. That bright spot on the numbers isn't a glare at the peak. That's the edge of the number. And then the darker area is the doubling. It took me a minute.. It's like an optical illusion. Kinda neat.

It never dawned on me that depending on how you look at the numbers, it looks like just one thick, high profile instead of the low profile with a doubling that it is...

That is contact from another coin or something else. It is also on the mint mark. Not Machine Doubling or a doubled die. Just circulation damage. (Questions help us to learn, so good call on your later post.)

I'm holding on to it as a comparison coin. Like my small date 1960-D.

Your not crazy.. I see MD, I did from the first pics, but your last pic a couple posts up, after reading I do see the optical illusion you are talking about. I was focusing and tricking my brain into seeing it two different ways.

I notice if I look at pictures on here, I've been pretty good at distinguishing DD from MD. Yet when I have a coin in hand that I found, I tend to see DD everytime. I think it's just hopes and dreams clouding my vision. :)

I see what appears like it could be notching.. but the digits are not consistently thick, and it's also on the mint mark. Which says MD to me..

But I see what coop is talking about where it looks like the whole date and MM took a nice hit, and I'm quite the noob so you should probably disregard everything I say and listen to his advice. :)

Definitely a large date, and definitely not a proof coin.

Also definitely NOT a doubled die, and definitely NOT Machine Doubling.

There is absolutely nothing I can see that is outside the ordinary on this coin.

Coppercoins - Maybe this cropping will make it clearer what I'm seeing. Less glare seems to make it show up better in the picture.
