Hi, I am new to the forum and I am trying to get some help in finding out what if any variations and commonly occurring errors there are to look for that occur in the 1982 and 2005 50 cent Commonwealth Games coins.
Thanks

Thanks for the Welcome. I suppose the reason I am asking this question is that I noodle a lot and find it hard to throw the commemorative coins back in the sea no matter how common they are.

I'm guessing that there aren't any known errors or variations with these 2 coins. Hate to do it but I'll be releasing these coins back into the wild

Hi wollvend to the forum One strategy that may help you to keep some of your commemorative coins is as follows: Collect the commemorative 20, 50 and 1 dollar coins that are in the best condition (near/almost uncirculated). Keep updating this set by replacing individual coins as better condition coins come into your possession. Compile the replacement commemorative coins into sets that you can give to family members. Especially good as "investment collections" for a new baby . Of course, they can easily be cashed in the future for junior's expenses. This strategy may also get your relatives checking their change !. Squire

Thanks for that Squire, I'm already keeping the good ones. I have a lot of these coins and was looking to return the average condition ones back into circulation, I was just hoping before they were returned to the wild that I could find some reason to keep a few of them.
Thanks again

I find it useful to keep a few copies of each commemorative coin type. If I get a new commemorative coin it is then possible to place this amongst similar coins for closer comparison with my magnifying glass. This "identity parade" makes it easier for me to notice any obvious differences. Of course, I always keep my trusty higher magnification Lupe handy for more detailed scrutiny.

Actually I have found a Cud error on the 2005 50 cent games coin on a couple of coins, based on a coin I saw on ebay. Not sure how to upload an image of it from my computer. I will work it out and post the image.

Quote: Hate to do it but I'll be releasing these coins back into the wild Whoa!! Don't do that just yet! At least not with the 2005 ones. I can't remember any errors on the 82 version, but I know the 05 one has quite a few. This is just a list, I do have pictures, but that'll take me a bit longer, maybe sometime in the next few days. 50c 2005 CG Obv Nose Cud x2 50c 2005 Obv CG D.Ck Neck-Rim 50c 2005 Rev CG D.Ck Bum-Rim 50c 2005 Rev CG4 x D.Cks x1 50c 2005 CG Rev Frogzilla x 3 50c 2005 CG Rev Knees Up x 2 50c 2005 CG Rev Puddle Bum x 6 50c 2005 C.Games Rev Cud on Inner Circle @ 7k x 2 I haven't specified which 2005 50c these are, they may be Games, maybe not. I'll have to actually locate the coins to check, and that will take a bit longer. 50c 2005 Obv 4 H.Cuds, D.Crk Rim-H-Tiara x 2 50c 2005 Obv Chin Cud 50c 2005 Obv Cud on Q's Lips 50c 2005 Obv D.Crk Rim - Neck x 3 In the meantime, you can check to see if I've posted any here: https://goccf.com/t/109021

Wow Thanks Nancy, That's what I was after. Good to see the image I uploaded is one of the Cuds you've listed. I'll feel a lot better going through these coins knowing the ones I release will hopefully be errorless. Thanks again

Wow nancyc . The people at the mint really have to be "perfect" to pass your scrutiny !. But then - that would make our hobby a lot less interesting Squire

Thanks Nancy, I went through my coins before these great photos and found a few inner circle Cuds , a nose Cud, and quite a few cheek Cuds (I'll post some photos) but now that I can see what those other errors look like I will go back and see if I can find a few more errors. (I think I need to get a life). Thanks for the images they are excellent.

I went through my 2005 50c commonwealth games coins armed with the list of errors to look for and found a number of Cud errors (not really interested in the die cracks). I found a few "thumbs up", "frogzillas", "puddlebums" I also found this coin with all those Cuds on the one coin along with an additional Cud error on the kangaroo. I don't know what to call this Cud error but I think in general Matt Shirvington was the inspiration for the errors on this coin.
