Hi everybody,
I have 3 five cents coins from Straits settlements with an inverted V in place of the A in Straits. The years are: 1874-H, 1879-H and 1880-H. Since I have 3, I think they must not be rare, but are these years all like that? If you have some of these years or other Victorian years would you please check them to see if they are like mine.

Hi,
I dont have those coins in my collection but I checked my catalog and there is nothing about letter error you mention, and picture in catalog is really small so I coudnt see word Straits on it. But with or without error this coins are according to catalog very pricey.

Can you post pictures of your coins? It might help...

I don't have anything to photograph coins in a decent way. If it's the norm, is there some of them with a real A?

I checked all my Straits coins (20+), all of them seem to have a regular "A". Including Victoria's 5 cents, also struck at Heaton but later date than yours. Here's mine:

Krause catalog doesn't mention this "A" variety business, I'll keep my eyes open for other examples.
Rest in Peace
