Purchased this denarius of Sept Severus a few days ago. It's my first coin of him. I know it isn't in the best of shape and I might have overpaid slightly for it but I just really liked it for some reason. Don't worry it wasn't an impulse buy IMO it is a nicely circulated coin with character. An interesting thing about it: it was found in Yorkshire, England in 2010.

If you can prove the find site and link that to this coin, it would double in value. Bit like shipwreck coins, with certificate.

I'm not with my books now so I'll leave catalog numbers to others but the key to this coin will be the right end of the obverse legend which reads IMP followed by a numeral (possibly X). Later coins saw Septimius change to a completely different obverse legend and there are some types that only come with one IMP date but others will require a reading of that number to find the coin in the catalog.

The above looks similar but I did not do the digging to be sure there is not another possibility. From style, the coin is Rome mint so you can eliminate the Laodicea issues of the type.

very nice coin ValiantKnight. I like it. Many of my coins are metal detector finds also I like to add that info for my coin attributions.

What do ya know I received it today, but unfortunately the camera is missing so no in hand photos. But what I can say is that its even better than in the picture, it has a nice kind of shiny, slightly dark silver color to it. And the reverse is great.

Thanks DV! Yep, sure does! Also makes me think of the journey it must have taken to get there. Interesting stuff!
