I picked up the 2012 ICCS population report today and flipped through the new section on tokens.

I know that most token collectors don't care too much about ICCS grading. I think that publishing the populations was a brilliant business development move by ICCS. I am sure many will now see an incentive to get tokens of low population varieties certified.

I was quite surprised about some of the population data. First I was surprised at how few of most tokens are certified. In many cases it is only a handful.

But there are a few tokens with astoundingly large populations. No doubt they are tokens that were part of a hoard or two. Given the ICCS populations, I am surprised that you don't see more of them for sale.

So, as I said most tokens have tiny populations. Hardly any have over 10 in any grade and some have only a couple graded. There are very very few MS tokens.

But here are the anomolies:

LC48C2: 17 in AU55 and 252 in MS60!
LC54D2: 14 in AU55 and 59 in MS60!
LC60E1: 1 in AU55 and 111 in MS60!
LC60E2: 6 in AU55, 214 in MS60, 12 in MS62 and 2 in MS63.

Any else looked at this? Any thoughts?

Must be from hoards. I read about a hoard of LC-60E2's found in a sack in a creek. I have 2 from that hoard (seller said so and showed the pile which were all water-stained), which appear to be uncirculated. Recently got 4 more which appear to be from the same group.

Haven't ever sent anything for grading among my 205 different colonial tokens (and 1000's of Canadian coins). I'd rather spend the money on acquiring others than waste it on a TPG.

At $15 a pop you might want to think about submitting a token.I have cut a few out of holders that I have added to my personal collection
