SPP-Ottawa Moderator Canada 10460 Posts	Posted 04/10/2012 10:01 pm Photo #1 - no. Almost ALL 1978 coins look like that, it is a function of Die Deterioration, but in the earliest stages. Later on, as the die further deteriorated, then you get some fantastic doubling of that 8, then as the die continues to deteriorate, the 78 is doubled, then the 978 and even the entire date can be doubled. I'll try to find some photos Photo #2 - show me a better example on an uncirculated coin. With a coin as circulated as that one, my reply would be 'doubtful'.
