Has anyone heard of these: This set sold for $1200 in 1976. Gold over sterling Presidential Commemorative Medals. Authorized by the White House Historical Association, this was a deluxe limited edition of "the official medals" Inside cover reads" Heavily layered with pure 24 kt gold over one ounce of pure solid silver. 5,000 Presidentital bi-centennial proofs have been available for this deluxe treatment.
All that I can find are the bronze medals!

I'm aware of a White House Historical Association set of gold-plated silver medals that was struck by the Franklin Mint, but I'm not aware of such a set being made by the US Mint. Each medal had about 1.2 ounces of silver (the medals were sterling silver, i.e., 0.925 fine); the gold weight is negligible.

The bronze medals in your image are from the US Mint's Presidents series, I'm not aware of these medals being struck in silver (with or without gold plating).
