I recently started collecting coins and came across the gold year of the tiger coin. I was really impressed with the appearance and liked the high face value, but I'm concerned because it isn't sold out despite the low mintage. Furthering my concern is that both the 2011 and 2012 are sold out.
Any idea why this coin is still available? Should I be concerned that this coin wont be worth more than its metal content because future collectors won't be interested?

oh wow...is that a Canadian law?
i noticed it said I was responsible for all taxes, etc but none were added in the shopping cart as I priced out the coin with shipping

yes, in canada pure gold and silver are tax exempt. of course the seller won't add tax in shopping cart because you are in US. when the coin crosses the border, US customs will decide how much tax to apply. BTW

When the tiger first came out, the Mint was selling it for $555.55. I bought one just before they increased the price to $638.88 and now it is $688.88.

I remember it was 588? then the rabbit came out for $688, after a while RCM changed the tiger price to 688 as well, but the subscription price is still 1276(588+688), I had a post talking about this issue. then the dragon came out, they fixed the price and the subscription sold out...

Found the receipt, paid $555.55. Same price as the hologram lunar tiger which I did not buy because of the design and a mintage of 4888.

That mint pricing kinda irks me. I kinda expect some analysis of supply/demand and profit margins to determine the price. I hate the feeling that the real price should be $620 (for example), but let's try to appeal to the Chinese crowd so we'll add a bunch of 8's to the price. I'd rather have the $68 in my pocket than a "lucky" sale price.

Yeah I saw the original price and immediately wished I was collecting back in 2010.
I did a search on the US customs site and I don't think I'll have any additional fees or duties. I guess I'll find out if I order.
So any ideas why the coin hasn't sold out. I would think the tax was part of the reason but with the other two selling out I'm not sure.

There must still be quite a few tigers left otherwise it would show up under the last chance list.

yes, they are slow updating their website. good things is I was able to dig through it and find bargains. last year I bought a hologram ram gold coin there for $420, their snake and horse were $385. I regret I didn't buy more:)
