We started going through my son's Mardi Gras doubloons his father left him and realized that they were in plastic flips with PVC. Many of the older ones (from 1960's and early 1970's) are very slimy and I need to clean them.

I believe they are aluminum - would soap and water be appropriate?

Acetone will easily remove PVC slime but be warned that the damage may have already been done.

I have doubloons which are painted, also plastic. I think acetone's fine on the annodized.
