Booke to go to Fiji next week. Went to the Post Office today to pick up my spending money I ordered from American Express... Consecutive run of 20. Probably worth at least AU$29.58 each (that's what they cost me). Incidently, Australians looking for foreign notes for a trip; best rates are American Express (on-line or Post Office order) and Travelex (but only if you order on-line and pick up at any shop or airport). Do not order at a Travelex shop -much more expensive than on-line. Unlike banks, no commissions from these places either. Back in about three weeks. Look here if you want me in the meantime. http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Locat...ti_Levu.htmlBye, Jeff Edited by Jeff 04/12/2012 02:42 am

I would cancel and wait until June when there's a new set of notes due for release (without the Queen's portrait apparently - damned Republicans!).
So have a good and safe trip and look forward to pics on your return.

That's right. Fiji Government has announced that Queen's portrait on currency will be replaced with native animals, birds and flowers. After all, they have not been a member of the (British) Commonwealth for many years now.

As of Jan 1 2009 they were suspended from the Commonwealth of Nations but not yet formally ejected. Not that the current leaders give a fig (or should that be a coconut). Whatever, while there just don't talk politics. Just enjoy the sea, sun, sand and whatever the local brew is.

OK, your shout and I will happily drink Fiji Gold if someone else pays. The Vonu Lager isn't a bad drop either. The turtle on the label is very similar to the turtle on the reverse of the old Fijian sixpences. Jeff

Not a big fan of Vonu (each to their own) - the Vonu logo and the six pence design are very similar as you say Jeff - beer and money certainly do go together

Quote: Not a big fan of Vonu But, I bet if you were stranded on a desert island (say Honeymoon Island in the Mamanucas, which has a beach, palm trees, barbecue and big ice box and you can swim around it in about 40 minutes) and the ice box was full of Vonu stubbies you would be tempted. As long as you have a bottle opener! -They still have to catch up with the "twist top" idea in Fiji.
