More rare than Maryland (by just 2 coins!), this specimen sports a mintage of 25,013. This one proved to be more difficult to photograph for some reason (the light had to be just right). There are a couple of unfortunate bag hits that diminish eye appeal.

I'm going with PCGS MS63 on this one ... you correctly made mention of the various bag hits and scuff marks ... all contriving to lower the technical grade.

Still ... a gorgeous example of Gertrude Lathrop work ... she also designed the 1938 New Rochelle half ... appears that Ms. Lathrop was a fan of animals .... a beaver on this coin and a calf on the New Rochelle.

History records that the New York State Conservation Department provided a live beaver for Ms. Lathrop to keep in her studio as a model for this coin ... not sure if they provided as well the maple branch for food.

I say it is a good thing that Ms. Lathrop did not earn the commission for designing the 1925 Vermont half ... not sure how a live Mountain Lion (Catamount) would have fared in her studio.

Make note as well of the smallest IMHO LIBERTY ever depicted on a USA coin ... the legally required legend appears as an after-though ... have fun searching for it.

A 63 sounds like a fair grade for it. And yeah, Liberty is really tiny on that coin.

I'm glad you had larger than life photos, to help me find it. I wonder if that is some symbolism, being on the eagles back like that?

Another near miss but darn close. The graders here at CCF have higher standards.
