Well, I got an offer I couldn't refuse so now I am the proud possessor of a complete Early Commemorative Type Set in BU. Picked up a PCGS MS66 Spanish Trail and a PCGS MS64 Hawaiian today. I'm stoked!! I know,I know.. PICS! That'll come in a few days... Looking forward to Muddy, David et all's critiques of the coins.... Did I say "I'm STOKED!" ? oh yes.. I did already..

The early commems are such a bargain for their mintage. This set just does not ever seem to want to take off. There are some very beautiful coins in that set too. It really is a set to consider putting together and what an achievement, paleoguy45! Well done. Expensive set to put together.

Outstanding! Putting together a nice mint state type collection of the classic commemoratives is an accomplishment worthy of pride and praise. Congratulations!
As with the others, I look forward to the pictures of your latest purchases!
How long have you been working on your set?

@commems.. I've been working on the set for about a year and a half. I started it as a logical progression from building a complete set of the Modern Commems (both UNC and Proof)... Call me Commem-happy...

@paleoguy45: Nice achievement. It appears I had the opposite collecting journey, I began collecting the classic series first and then worked on a modern set. I'm an UNC fan, so my complete modern set (clad, silver and gold) is comprised of all uncirculated examples.
It's always nice to hear the stories behind a fellow collector's collection! Thanks for sharing.

Wow PG ... not sure what to say other than congratulations on the ! By my recollection ... PG is now the only member of the CCF (that I know of) to have a complete classic silver and modern silver commemorative type set. Commems might be there as well ... but has not shared (to my knowledge) the completion of the modern set. Humbly offer my bows to PG ... Of course ... Quote: $4200 for the pair That is a bargain price if they are quality coins ... and a fair price if they are average for the grade coins. The Hawaiian and Spanish Trail are tough coins and worthy of significant financial investment. Congratulations PG ... I know the depth of your interest and the breadth of your collection ... so this is another amazing set completion for you. I am thrilled for you ... now show some photos please. Best David

@nickelsearcher: I actually do have a complete set of the uncirculated versions of the modern commemoratives. See my post two above yours!

I am very happy for you and am looking forward to seeing your last pair for the set. Are you still going for an Oregon trail sub set?
