Hi,G'day Everyone. Recently I got 50c cent coin from a bank. but it look like unusual coin (attached) is it error coin from the mint? or man made?. I really curious about it, I hope someone in this forum could help me to explain what type of error it is. Thank you.

Looks like PMD to me and not an error. And trout I'm fair sure its not two coins stuck together but in the second and third photo he has put another 50c underneath for comparison.

Hi, Trout1105 & Enworb thanks for your explanation. but there's something bother me, I did a little bit experiment, put another 2 coin in the same position and it seem the cutting part fit with the edge of it (attached). Is it coincidence? or maybe an error during striking process? Thank you.

I think you may be clutching at straws with that hope

So how do you tell a 50c clipped planchet from PMD?

i start my noodling journey recently and it is so fascinated me. sometimes I get to much excited & not realistic [:D. that's the reason why I join in CCF, so I can learn much more from the experts.

Both of the dents are rounded and not sharp, looks like a grinder accident to me. If they were clips they would be uniform and sharp

Okay, lets all take a step back and look at this. It could be a clip. It could be a hammer / PMD. I will have look / guess after my tea. Surprised Nicwinner has not commented yet

Odd & no comment. I'm a polymer person.

dibby33, please let me know your final judgement. if clipped then it will give me a big amount of energy to noodling this week :). if not, then I stick to trout1105....just ordinary PMD, and take a break from noodling for a while.

Regardless of whether it's a clip or PMD, don't let that take away your enthusiasm for noodling - there's plenty of worthwhile finds out there in 50Cland, not the least being an incuse millennium.

Hi coinnoodling and to CCF. Don't be disheartened if this coin turns out to be PMD, there are plenty of other error coins floating around in the pond. Measure the angle of the clip and if it's 30 degrees then it could be a clipped planchet. If it's not exactly 30 degrees then its probably PMD. You will have to photograph the coin from vertically above each clip to do this and then measure the angle. I note that from the pics provided it appears that there isn't a rough uneven point where the clip angles meet nor any tell tale groves in the clips which indicates to me that it isn't PMD.
