I'm beginning to feel like stevex6! Just had to have a Nero! (no offense to you steve, I like your style). After posting the copper oxided tetradrachm that got no good comments, I went looking for another that had more curb appeal. I really liked this one. And I'm sure I paid way too much for it, but Nero's seem to me, JW's excluded, were going for a bunch of money. Anyway, I would like you comments on this purchase if you would? Please be kind. But I can handle the truth. Thanks all. Nero billion tetradrachm. Alexandrian mint. 12.45 grams. 25mm. I believe this is the right attribution, as it did not come with purchase: OB:ΝΕΡΩΚΛ'VΚ'ΙΣΕ'"ΕΡ radiate bust right, wearing aegis. REV:'VΤΟКР' eagle walking left with palm branch. Date LIA = year 11 to left. 64-65 AD. (Apparently all my Greek characters didn't come out like it showed on the screen )

Ok, ok if I don't tell you what I paid for it, I'll probably not get a response...positive or negative. I feel kind of sheepish though, with all the good deals everyone seems to be posting lately. Oh well, I paid a C note for it.

Thanks Steve. They may only be 20% silver, but I agree with you, they are certainly heavy in hand. I have been lusting after Nero for a while and couldn't restrain myself any longer. He's such a bad boy :)

VERY nice! I like it. I have the same exact coin but yours is in much, much, better shape than mine. I posted a picture of the one I bought a while ago. Link: https://goccf.com/t/115934As you can see mine has a very coppery appearance with a hint of silver. Yours looks a lot more silvery.

I like this coin,it has character and looks like it has been in circulation. I'm going to say $40, that is what I would be willing to pay for it.

Yep. That's the same one. But you paid quite a bit less than mine. I probably paid premium for it, but I did like the detail and indeed the silver look to it.

Well echinzento I paid well over twice that amount. A guy from France had a dozen Nero's on the international ebay site and the ones that were in poor condition were fetching 70 bucks or more, some as high as 200. They were spaced only a few minutes apart. I really wanted this one for the eagle reverse and got the auction fever. Please don't tell JW, he'll spank me good! But I do like the coin and that has to count for something.

I'm a bit like JW in that I tend to try and find the rock bottom price. The bottom line is that as long as you are happy with the coin and the price that's all the matters.
I don't have any tets in my collection simply because I haven't found one at the price I would be will to spend.

I'm happy that I got the coin, but honestly I know I paid too much. I should be like you and JW ... patient!

Quote: I should be like you and JW Don't wish that on anyone. I've been lucky for the most part, but I too have spent too much cause I couldn't wait any longer. You are probably correct about the price being a tad high, but hey, you wanted the coin and the price is probably not TOO high. I think it was Doug who said that it is our impatience that drives up the price of coins. I think you did OK on the price. Now the coin. That's something else all together. It is a beauty. Nice addition to your collection.

Ummm, what's that word I'm searching for again? ... froogul? ... phrulgle? ... oh yes, "frugal" => Get off my back, I'm far too busy buying coins to be frugal!!

Hi oxos
My friend, as someone who's knowingly overpaid on the odd coin or two, take it from me that you are going to enjoy that coin for a lo-o-ong time past the feeling of paying high for it. Kick back and LOVE that tet!

You guys rock! That's why I love this forum. You can make a bone head move and still feel good about it! And yes I really love this coin. The only other tetradrachm that I own is a Gallienus and I did pretty good on that one, so I'll average 'em out and convince myself I'm even!
