I don't see many questions on MPCs on this site, but maybe someone has knowledge of the latest Schwan survey count and value of this note. The last survey I saw listed only a handful of this replacement, including this one. It is a mid grade F-VF with no tears, pinholes, or major stains.

Hi,
Sorry I cant help with your question but I have some that maybe you can help with.

How does a collector date a MPC ?.

And being that it does not have a star how does one know it's a replacement note ?.

I had a bunch of them awhile back but like you could not find much info on them, so gave them away to some kids that were just starting out in currency collecting.

The first 2 numbers after the word "series" is the printing date. In this case it is 1952, but it wasn't actually issued until 1954 I believe.
At the beginning and end of the serial number are letters of the alphabet. Replacements are missing the letter at the end or far right. Stars were never used.

The last edition of the MPC catalog (2002) lists 8 Series 521 $.50 replacements from the first printing including this one. That survey data is at least 10 years old.

There is a website with tons of info on MPC but the last time I posted a link to it on this discussion board the mods pulled the posting for some reason.

MPCFest, the annual gathering of military paper money collectors in Fred Schwan's hometown of Port Clinton OH is the first weekend in May this year.

My catalogue is also outdated. The data base of the website you mentioned has been down for quite sometime and you can't sign in.

The database only shows 5 for the first printing.

Thanks worldnumis,
That's good Info on how to ID the MPC, wish I knew about about it when I had them, I would have passed it on to the kids I sent them to, some are members of this group so hope they read your Info.
