I am curious how others are collecting U.S. currency

For me, it seems like when I see a interesting note and I think it is at a good price .. I pick it up

Recently I have been wanting to be more focused and organized. I wish there was type set album for currency

I think most of my current bills are one dollar denomination, but I do have some $2, $5, $10 and $20's

Some of my ideas to organize and focus are
Put in album
Separated by denomination
One dollar
1928 silver cert
1928 A silver cert
1928 red seal
1935
1935 A
1935 B
1935 c
and so on..
Then do the same for two dollar.. then five dollar etc
or

Display them

Silver cert
$1,$2,$5,$10 and $20
Hawaiian
$1,$2,$5,$10 and $20
North African
$1,$2,$5,$10 and $20
and so on

I am not sure if they make all denomination for all
categories. Or if there is a set way most currency collectors organize their collections.

I would like to hear how others are doing it.

I collect more or less just like your description.
For the Small size notes:
All denominations and series years:
A set of Hawaiian.
A set of North African.
A set or the R and S notes.
A US note Red Seal collection.
Just about a set of Silver Cert.
( missing the 1933 $ 10.00 )
A set of Gold Cert.
A set of FRN from 1928 to 2009 in all denominations from
$ 1.00 to $ 1000.00
( missing some of the more modern ones but should not have a problem finding them over time )

I think most collectors that are collecting all the denominations stop at the $ 100.00 but I got lucky with my FRN $ 500.00 and $ 1000.00 so keep them in the collection.

Then I try an collect the Large Size notes about the same way, but for me a lot of them are out of my price range.

I don't pay much attention to fancy numbers, stars, errors, Nationals, etc.

Rest in Peace

I collect obsolete paper money from the county I live in, York County PA. It's fun to see the old paper money from the area.

I've started on notes from the 1950s and I'm gradually working my way back. I'm not terribly big on paper money, but they are super interesting nonetheless. US paper especially. Notes start getting pricey for me even at 1935 or 1928. I'm trying to collect all signatures and everything MUST be UNC, GEM-UNC if available.

I am about to downsize considerably on my paper money collection. I am going to keep one of the MAJOR types and sell off the rest, not that I have a whole worth a whole lot. But I have about 100 (or so) bills mainly $1's and $2's and a few $5's and one $10.

In terms of US currency, I collect mostly modern notes, but if I can get them for the right price I'll gladly purchase older ones. All must be UNC. Also I'm a fond of the confederate money, I'm looking for that 100$ confederate bill, the one my avatar displays partially. I still haven't found one close enough to UNC on ebay.

U.S currency is not my main area of focus so I only purchase examples on occasion. I usually buy whatever catches my eye which usually is a large size note. I really like some of the designs on those notes. I have been thinking about acquiring a $1 silver certificate from each of the series, large and small.

Yes, I will sort out the list (it's in Excel form right now) and place it on the CCF first!

I need to scan the images too!

oih82w8, I'm interested in seeing your list for sale too.

And I collect and organize by denomination and series. I also collect Obsolete, Fractional, and CSA notes.

I try to get all 12 districts (or as many as I can) for each series for the $1 notes in CU.
