I have seen rolls of coins on ebay which have been made by companies (eg Chubb) rather than the mint. How can the sellers (and buyers) know if the roll contains all the same coins, or just randomly has a particular coin on the end? I have been through many Chubb rolls and the ones I have seen have never been only 1 type of coin. example of a listing like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-SILVER...em519b23b132Please note, I am not saying that this item is not as described, I just want to know how anyone can be sure about what it is.

For 50c there is only twenty coins per roll. What are the chances of having both the same coins in UNC condition on the ends? Its not fool proof of course and I would never trust it but really thats probably a bit paranoid.

that roll of rams heads has been opened, so definitely no bid on that baby. I agree with you that you are taking the seller on trust that all 20 coins are UNC and all the same. I do not like buying a pig in a poke unless I have dealt with the seller on a prior occasion and been happy with the outcome. At 250 plus shipping I could buy 5-6 1991 mint sets and know for certain the coins are UNC

There are heaps of them on ebay that are UNC condition that go for way under $10. I didnt have a look at the price but $250 is way too much.

This is the clincher for me : "PICTURE IS FOR ILLUSTRATION ONLY , SIMILAR COINS WILL BE SENT"
Avoid.

I was not wanting to buy either, just to find out how anyone can know/claim a non-RAM roll is all one type of coin since I have never opened a non-RAM roll and they have all been the same coin.

There is no way to tell without opening the roll.

Your question poses the ultimate dilema, which is to the benefit of sellers - how to you know? Basically, you do not know without opening the wrapping. The dilema is once you do you cannot consider item to be a roll, or at least, a roll in unooened condiion. I heard some of the Federation 50c rolls sold on ebay were not all fed 50c oins inside - the buyer obviously opened the roll to find this out. If you want to play it safe stick to RAM released rolls - with security rolls you are taking a chnace either way
