I just received my Clad Proof Mint Proof Sets 1999-2009. And I was just checking a very reliable website that prices coins, and I found that for instance the 2009 Lincoln Cent would price 112 dollars+ if it would grade PR70. My question is, the coins I receive from the mint, they grade PR70? Or is that price for Silver proofs ?

You would have to crack the proof set and submit the coin to a grading company like PCGS,
they would determine the grade. As you know PR70 is considered a perfect coin. The proof cent
may look perfect to you but trying to get a reputable grading service to bestow the grade of
PR70 is a difficult task. The next most difficult task would actually finding a buyer at $112.
If all the proof sets contained PR70's they would not have a premium value.

But I don't understand, these proof sets were struck and then put into the holders, and so shouldn't it be PR70 since it was only touched by the die?

Someone had to put it in the holder though. The difference between a 69 and a 70 is very difficult to see. Years back a 70 grade was almost unheard of, with today's registry sets and TPG's marketing gimmicks, a 70 is a lot more common. Todays proof sets should contain 69 graded coins at a minimum if sent in for grading.

No - not necessarily, dust, finger prints, the die itself can wear, the planchet may not be perfect, the grader may see something that is not really there, or something that is there you missed.

I searched ebay I see ANACS 4 coin LMC sets in PR70 going for $150, NGC sets in PR69 selling under $200 and PCGS70's are the only ones bringing the kind of money you mention, and the better money is only for the first strike sets. To submit a four coin 2009 LMC set would be pretty expensive for the average collector. If you have opened and looked at your set you can't get the first release designation - you may not be able to get it at all any more even if the sets are still sealed from the mint. I'm betting with shipping insurance grading fees, etc. It would cost about $150-200 just for PCGS to grade and return them to you a shot at PR70DCAM

Here is a set of PCGS PR70DCAM that sold for $500.00 [eBayItem]390398603635[/eBayItem] Most of the single coins I see sold for lesss, most fall around the $80-90.00 range currently.

In fact here is a set that had the silver dollar in it for $395.00 that sold recently [eBayItem]230753825271[/eBayItem] but it is ANACS gradded not PCGS big difference in price, but not coin quality, IMO.

Good comments....proof 70 Lincolns are tough to get with PCGS, lesser with the other TPG's. No way I'd spend the money to submit one because the chances are much greater that it will come back 68 or 69 before 70. If you want a 70, buy one slabbed already.

I have an almost complete 2009 Proof set in PCGS PR70. The cents routinely sell for $100-$120. The half dollars go for $100-$120 clad/silver. The silver puerto rico costs about $65 and the other quarters are had at $30-$40. The sac costs about $70 and the dollars are about $40 each. I hope that helps you.
