I just picked this up in a auction. Looks good filling that hole that was in my album, and I think it picked it up at a good price as long as its authentic. My guess is the grade is AG

I request a close up (or at least in focus) picture of the date. From the provided pic, the 7's don't look identical - and they should be.

That's a strange wear pattern and strange color. I'd definitely be concerned about the authenticity.

The second "7" does seem to be smaller then the first.

The date looks wierd and the N's on the reverse look to have been obliterated so as to conceal the diagnostics. Throws up flags here.

Fake. The bottom of the 7's (particularly the left side) are not symmetrical in the least.

Good observation all! No doubt, that explains the uneven wear.
None of the digits look right. Compare the shape of the "18" to a certified coin (top).

Hope you didn't pay too much for it. There is a positive out of this. That coin can be a valuable educational tool for those that want to see a fake one, diagnostically speaking.

Agreed. That's fake. Problems with the denticles as well.

I'm also a bit curious about its edge. Could we see a side-shot?

I didn't pay all that much ($225), I have contacted the seller for a refund. I'm sure they will have no problem with refund, I buy 10+ coins a week from them online and they are a stand up seller.

I'll try to get a edge shot as well and post it up.

Thanks for all the help and info on this one.

Too bad. Would have been a great price for such a coin.
