I could be wrong, but I don't think there are many fake common date dollars out there. They sell at bullion value, more or less, so the only reason to fake one would be to pass off a base metal for silver. I would be a lot more worried about 48s and other tougher dates.

Buy a .01g accurate scale off ebay. And the latest edition of Charlton. Also a ruler and a magnet. If the coin weighs right, has the correct dimensions and isn't magnetic, it is silver. As Smallcentguy mentioned, rarer coins can and do have fakes made out of the right metal alloy. But for bullion coins these factors are all you need to be concerned with.

It looks genuine to me. Like everyone have already mentioned fakes on common dates aren't produced on the same scale as key date fakes.

If the logic of the posters was in fact correct.....then there would be no fake loonies or twoonies of which there are hundreds of thousands. Also counterfeit 1980 25 cent coins. There are counterfeits of all denominations, common dates as well as NO BULLION value coins. From Victoria effigy coins up to modern day Elizabeth coins! To think other wise is naive.
And from the picture provided, there is no reliable way to ascertain if it is genuine or not.
