I've emailed the seller after I won the auction, and as pleasantly as possible reminded him that I am anticipating recieving the exact coin pictured. If it isn't - I will ask for my money back, but it seems like a decent risk at this cost. Thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/19066531241....m1439.l2649

I'm far from being an expert, but I thought at this stage of wear that the 1916 would not show any rivets on the shield. I thought I could see rivets.
For your sake, I hope I'm wrong!

Amida - exactly. I know it was a risk....which is why I mentioned recieving the exact coin. In fairness, in the description part of the ad, he does state Silver Quarter. His selling record isn't spotless, but 99% of his sales are sports cards....not coins.
I'll certainly post the results here when the coin arrives.

If I am not mistaken, it looks like you got quite the bargain. From what I can recall, the diagnostics look right. The bead above the head, shield rivets, drapery in Liberty's right hand, and the robe by the foot. Congrats!

Yipes, how did that slip through all the discerning eyes of ebay (and CCF). Sure looks like a 1916 to me, unless like you suspect, he plans to send you a different dateless SLQ. I'm curious, what was your max bid, since it's a thousand dollar coin.

Now I see what Oih82w8 is showing, it's the same coin with the 2 diagonal scratches, good luck with that one.

Well - like I said - worth a shot - especially at that price, but it certainly looks like I'll be sending the coin (whatever arrives) back and filing a complaint. Oh well.......

Wow, cannot believe a seller would do this. This is a bait and switch scam- should be reported to ebay! Let us know if seller emails you back. Maybe seller will take his dateless 1917 and tool it some to make it look more like the picture?
