Not my favorite design but you've got to love the limited mintage of 8007. One more coin to show here, then wait for the grade from PCGS. I will revisit each post when that happens.

Very nice! Love the state, but not necessarily the city.

Another very nice coin! I'm so hesitant to offer grading thoughts based on photos/images as lighting can either create or hide marks or wear that can alter a coin's grade from Ch AU to Choice MS. So, I'll just take the cowardly way out and wait to see how PCGS views it! In any case, from what you've shown so far, it looks like you're off to a great start with your commemorative collection! Keep it up!

with commems on that account. The fine photos are high resolution ... but the lighting is tough to make out the difference between AU and MS. That said ... I see very little in the fields or portraits to lead me to believe this is anything less than a choice MS example ... looking forward to whatever PCGS says. The current April 2012 issue of The Numismatist has an excellent feature article on this coin ... the premise being that the plain appearing design is actually indicative of " the unified fight for independence, but also the divisive call for secession". Another great coin ... thrilled to see your interest in the series. David

The problem is the lighting I like may not necessarily be the best light for grading purposes. I lean more toward art than technical, in general. A video of a coin tilting in the light would be better but I don't see that option.
Nothing like a coin in hand, but this has been a fun exercise! I fully expect one or more coins to be returned Details, AU or worse (although I'd be surprised if there were a counterfeit), but I'm OK with whatever the gang at PCGS has to say. I sent them all flowers this morning ;-).

That is one dang awesome coin! I'd guess it'll come back as an MS-65. On the reverse, to the left of the base of the palm tree, the item looks a little weak, as compared to the item to the right.

You are quite right, Mr. Quinn! Good eye. PCGS has rendered an opinion and I'll follow up with the verdict shortly.

Assuming it's not AU58 for slight rub that does not show up in your photos ... I'm going MS64 on account of the minor but visible bag hits on Ms. Liberty on the obverse (right arm, robe and sword) and the few scratches on the reverse fields. The open fields make this design susceptible to all manner of minor handling abuse ... hence gem MS65 and better examples are tough to come by. PCGS says .... David

Another lovely PCGS MS addition to your set Bill ... it has been a pleasure to observe your coin grades come in ... and excellent to note the nice start you have on your set. I suppose I got lucky again on the grade of this one. Looking forward to offering whatever support I can as you grow your set of the best ever USA series of coinage. David
