Mintage: 20,053. Several of the rim legends appear to be "crushed", although this does not seem to be that uncommon with this coin. Also notice what I believe to be a planchet defect rather than PMD (reverse, starboard/aft). What do you think? "Whoa, take 'er easy there, Pilgrim". Edited by TreeMonkey 04/14/2012 12:22 pm

Many of these were made with deteriorated dies so it isn't uncommon to see exactly what you see on this coin. I especially like the pilgrims with that large die crack on the reverse. I'm not sure what that mark is on the reverse though. I really like it!

A closer look at the die crack. Is this the one you are referring to EC?

Can not determine from the photos between very lightly circulated and MS. High points of the design (to check for circulation rub) are the hat and hair of Governor Bradford on the obverse and the stern of the ship on the reverse. Nice coin ... well preserved and an exceptional example of USA coinage history. Is this one of your PCGS submissions? David

Nice coin, it looks to be in really good shape. High grade 1921 Pilgrims are pricey, not sure what the mark is on the reverse.

Is the reverse "defect" raised or incused? If "in" the planchet, I wonder if it could be some sort of "struck through" situation?

Yes, this coin is now in the hands of PCGS. As for the blemish on the reverse, it is incused. I've heard that NCG deems die cracks as errors so I wonder how PCGS will view considering the die crack and crater.

Strange incuse and awesome that it has die cracks. Don't hear much about those on commems. It'll be interesting to see what PCGS says about them.

I didn't mean to string this out so long but I've been on the road.

Lovely coin ... another great example for you set. I see that I somehow did not offer a grade opinion on this one ... slipped by somehow ... I would have guessed MS64. Thanks for sharing the updates ... looking forward to the new coins in your growing set of the greatest of all USA series. David

That is great it came back as a MS-64. It looks more like a 65 to me though.

Another great looking coin and the "key" to the two-piece Pilgrim set. It's great seeing the "before" and "after" shots -- going forward, will you continue to buy "raw" coins and submit them for grading/encapsulation yourself or will you buy coins already graded? Looking forward to seeing your growing collection!
