Got this one months ago but just got around to taking a photo of it. It was a buy from one of my trusted sellers. I'm a sucker for lesser-known, non-big name emperors/empresses that I can get within my budget and this Eudoxia fit the bill. It's one of my favorite coins in my collection.  Obv: Pearl-diademed draped, bust right, wearing earrings and necklace, and crowned by hand of God Rev: Victory seated on cuirass, inscribing a christogram on shield set on a low column. This is a new coin for me--the "hand of God" crowning Eudoxia is very interesting.
Was Eudoxia the first of the "manus dei" type, or were there pre-Christian Roman versions too?

I think Arcadius himself was the first. I have a coin of him minted between 378-383, and he is being crowned by God as well.

As far as I know Arcadius would be the first of the crowning-types, since there's also an posthumous issue of Constantine I with him in a quadriga on the reverse with the hand of God not crowning but reaching down towards him.

ValiantKnight => for some strange reason, I am unable to "view" your coin photos? ... maybe it's my work computer's firewall? (hopefully I'll be able to view them at home, tonight) => man, work sure can get in the way of coin collecting!  |

If the firewall blocks photobucket then most likely yes, because photobucket is what I use to host my photos.

I agree. The Chi Rho is common enough on Byzantine coinage, but it's a little tougher to find (and therefore nicer to see) a nice example on a Roman coin Very sweet!  |
