I would not and could not just not pay that much money for a penny, regardless of how much money owned. The amount of .9999 bullion I could purchase and roll around in would be ridiculous

Yes true that TC, I imagine I could get enough PM's that I could not physically lift it all from the ground, that is my goal before it is all said an done .... I would also like to say, I share this thread with TP, as our minds simultaneously discovered this great coin fact we knew all here would like to know about.....

tripncoins: As you may well know, the Hunt brothers amassed a huge holding in silver. They also acquired the Seltman example of an ancient Athenian silver Dekadrachm. THAT eventually sold for $10 million. I have a picture of that coin in Seltman's book.

I just took a peek @ the Athenian silver decadrachm coin. Amazing specimen and 44 of them only identified? Wow! Now I want/craving some ancient silver ha! Anything cheaper?

Quote: Now I want/craving some ancient silver ha! Anything cheaper? Lol, Trip. From the sounds of that, EVERYTHING else is cheaper! I agree that a million bucks for a penny strains the limits of credulity, however... if that is too much, I have some VERY nice tulip bulbs here that I can let go for the measly sum of only $10,000 each!

Yup I just want a little piece of ancient history - nothing too fancy. I read about the Tulip Mania awhile back (Mike Maloney book). Crazyness I say!!
Just to hold such a coin, and to think about life back then - the hands & people / area / time / society it has seen.
It really does intrigue me and makes me realize life is short.

Quote: I read about the Tulip Mania awhile back (Mike Maloney book). Crazyness I say!! Yep. But there we were, 300 or so years later on and feeding the Internet bubble for all it was worth. NASDAQ 5000, baby! These stocks are going to the moooooon! Different time, same mistake. Quote: It really does intrigue me and makes me realize life is short. Indeed so. It is fascinating to hold a coin from even 100 or so years ago and wonder what it could tell us. The really ancient Greek and Roman coins are like that too only much more so.
