Do these people have to get some kind of certification to become a TPG? Who certifies them if so? How many TPG's are there anyways?

No. Anybody can buy some empty slabs and call themselves a "TPG."

Nobody, under any provision of law.

Depending on how you define the term, maybe a couple hundred. Four or five, if you're counting the ones which can be trusted to try to come up with a realistic grade.

Caveat emptor. The educated buyer is the happy buyer. All others are merely contributing to someone else's economic prosperity.

Currently I have listed since 1972 there have been about 150 companies, about 35 to 40 of which have been active in the past year.
