Is PCGS really worth the higher price?

I just bought 2 MS70 ASE's graded buy SGS for about the same price as a raw UNC SAE. In PCGS the price is about 3 OR 4 times higher.
What do ya'll think?

(Moved to the TPG section)

If you are purchasing just to collect and not for resale, PCGS is pricier and, in my opinion, not necessarily worth the added premium. If you are purchasing for resale, PCGS definitely commands a higher price than any other TPG (for now). NGC seems to run second and then ANACS and ICG. Some people will pay a very high premium for coins in ANY slab and take the grade as gospel. Obviously, this is not a very wise thing to do.

I guess it's really up to you. Would I pay premium for a slabbed coin? No, unless it was a coin that required authentication. I prefer to purchase my coins raw and grade for myself, but that is my personal preference.

In short, NO. Most of the so-called "premium" for PCGS-graded coins is due to HYPE. The only series for which I can see POSSIBLY paying a premium is for high-grade Lincoln cents. In that area, PCGS does seem to be a bit more conservative than the other services, and their guarantee for grading copper is definitely superior to that of NGC. But for any other series, I would absolutely not pay a premium just for the brand of plastic.

Please, ALWAYS buy the coin, not the holder.

If you buy a Cadilac you will pay more than for a Chevy. If you buy a Mont Blanc pen you will pay more than for a Parker pen. However, that does not mean with a Cadilac you will not get a car that won't start or get a flat tire and with a Mont Blanc pen it may still leak. PCGS is made up of people and people make errors, mistakes, etc., just like other companies. I hear they pay their help more so they have to charge more.
