Hi all, last week on my day off I carted around a huge amount of $2 coins, ($3000 of $2's from the bank & $156 in my coin jar). The results were interesting to say the least. As for finding any mis-strikes...nope...nothing worth writing home about. But I did however find a counterfeit/fake 2003, a really weak strike & a possible rusted planchet. Have a look below at the stats, a little small because I had to fit it under 100kb & after that are the coin curiosities. COIN 1A very very weak strike or struck through oil on the obverse, I've included a couple of other images of the same area. I'm thinking it is either a 2003 or 2005. The problem with both of those years was the tendency to have weaker strikes. I noticed throughout this long & painful session that 2003, 2005 & 2008's all looked very similar. Have a look...from this angle it takes on an appearance of 2003...? COIN 2The whole session was worth it in finding a 2003 counterfeit/fake. I've circled some images following regarding the elements of the coin that just look off. This coin made it all worthwhile. On the reverse, have a look at how close the stars & plant bunch (next to the 2) are to the rim, also look at how far the back of the aboriginals head is from the rim. Have a look at his dreadlocked beard. As for the obverse, the letters remind me very much of what the lettering looks like on date altered 1923 Halfpennies. I always love the side profile of $2 counterfeits, they're so shabby. They always make me wonder how they went about making this worthless (to others but not me) copy coins. COIN 3Below is the coin that looks like it has a rusty planchet. I'll post some more pictures below, just to see if anyone agrees or agrees to disagree. Let me know what this is!

Hi goatieman23 Wow, what an incredible effort All those coins must have been heavy. How did you cart them out of the bank . Obviously no problems in asking the bank for all that change. Some time ago I also received a counterfeit $2 coin in my change. Shallow strike on the reverse, very thick rim on the obverse. 1997 coin. Got me interested in coin collecting again though Squire

Nice find on the strike-through, and would tend to agree with the 2003 date. Interesting to see those forgeries are still doing the rounds. As for the rusty planchet, it looks similar to what could be expected from a bored schoolkid armed with a permanent marker... P.S. Nice stats table by the way

Looks exactly like it...I was thinking darn it's been worn down, but possibly just the way they are. It's a pity it's a little scratched, but nevertheless an other addition to my addiction.

AaronG, if you really want a nice 2009, I'll get one to you. It won't cost much maybe $4 direct deposit of $5 paypal including regular postage. Let me know. I've kept goodies from the past. I've got five nice ones here.

Dibby, it took me way too long & because they're close to the size of a 5 cent piece it does get overwhelming...you get to a point where you're like..."I GIVE UP!" but it was the takings that needed to be banked which I changed earlier on that week. So you just have to. YOU CAN DO IT!

The real coin looks like an Aborigine. The fake looks like a dime store Santa.

That's a jiggle, not a giggle.
