Hi...I just came across a 2005 20 cent (WWII Coming Home) and the '5' appears to be stamped over a '6'.....could this be possible? I was actually just about to list it for sale because of a large rim Cud and noticed the date error....has one of these been reported before? Edited by larena 04/25/2012 02:04 am

Can you try and take a closer picture of the 5? My guess would be a small Cud in the right spots to make it look like a 6. The reverse rim Cud is pretty big!

Trying to get a closer one enworb...not much good posting one that doesn't show it well enough..but at the top I can see the curl of the '6' extending just past the top of the '5' and can also see the 'belly' of the '6' where the opening is on the '5'....will post again when I get a good pic

larena, I think what you might be seeing is perhaps the result of a damaged die if the 5 you are referring to is the one on the reverse. I've been hunting through my 20c errors to find an example to take a picture, but can't find the little beastie. I'm certain I have at least one, if not more, where the reverse legend has quite a few tiny Cuds in the letters and numbers. I'll keep looking but in the meantime have a close look at yours and see if what I described might be the case. We look forward to some more piccies.

Nancy...this does not look like Cuds ..either its a double strike? or a '6' under the '5'...the dint across the right of the 5 is PMD which makes it a bit harder to see

High Larena, went through about 200 of these 2005 coins to see if I could find a similar error or even that huge Cud on the rim. Found nothing but did find a lot of example of Cuds on the obverse just below the the queens lip.

I have a similar large rim Cud to this one somewhere. I did not look so closely at the rest of the coin. I might dig it up and take a look.

I found one coin with metal through the rev legend. Pictures will arrive later. It's not what I thought I had, and no wonder I couldn't find them, what I have are 50c coins with small Cuds in the rev legend. Doh!
