As a few of you know I am attempting to create a machine to do the noodling so I don't go blind. I have built a web cam rig that positions the coins in the same place each time no matter what size of coin. Photos from that are okay. May need to upgrade to a USB microscope though. Movement of the coins is going to involve robotics. I have never touched this field of engineering before so should be interesting to learn. Have a robot arm on order just now to play with! Could not help myself. The actual processing of the image is going to be done (eventually) by image recognition software. This is proving to be extremely complex. For now my brain will have to suffice. For ideas I have been trawling through old patent and copyrights. This is obviously not a new idea and there are a lot of potential systems out there. Anyway, just wanted to give you an update of where I am. Will try and post some photos of the rig soon. Any suggestions will be make very welcome Today the eye, tomorrow I give you..... THE AUTO NOODLER!

that sounds like a lot of progress since you last reported on this: I look forward to the next report.

Are you taking any pre-orders for future ones you make? LOL Good luck with it all and will keep in touch with your reports!

Noodling is so much fun I really dont think a robot can have the same sense of joy at finding a collectable coin as an "addicted coin collector" can.

Graeme - I Know. The light as it hits the coins, the second it takes for your eye to adjust to the focus and the change of light. ...or 10000 coins done whilst you are sleeping with a pile of 100 to be checked and a pile of 10 as keepers.... Think about it, a hobby that costs you nothing (as you put the coins back to the bank), would be like Christmas everyday! Wake up and just check - but the check has increased odds :-)
Don't get me wrong here, I love looking at coins. I will never stop. I just want to try and narrow down the number of coins that I look at. The human brain will never (in my life time) outdo a computer. The rationalisation that we are capable of is in itself beyond our comprehension.
This project has been attempted many many many times since coins were invented. I am going to try and collate all this information.
I need a beer!

lol - misread the description of the robotics. To be more accurate - I missed the work KIT in the title. Feck. I have >100 parts to put together. Oh well, I was after an introduction to robotics, so this will be a good start. Like my new job position (due to my senior getting the sack), I am currently in high altitude training :-)
Started work on the database to handle this also.

I have already made a machine that does that exact job. He is nearly six. LOL

A good way to start would be introducing yourself in the "Introduce yourself" section.
