Does a 1983 bronze penny have any value? I tried to scan a picture but the true color is not coming through very well. Just wondering if I should keep this coin or not...it is a light bronze color.

Sorry for all the questions since I started. Learning new things take time.

1st question- did you weigh it? A picture is almost worthless compared to an accurate weight. A 1983 Lincoln on a pre-1983 copper alloy planchet would be a rare transitional error as all 1983s should be copper-plated zinc.

If it is real and in a high enough grade it would be worth in the thousands once you have it slabbed.

I do not have a car during the day so I just ordered me a scale. It should be here hopefully by Wednesday and then I will know the weight.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I may have found a gem.

You really didn't need to buy a scale. If you've been around here for a while, you'ld see the popsicle stick method. Take a popscicle stick and balance it on a pencil. A six sided pencil works best since it will sit still for the balancing. Now after you balance ths stick on the pencil, place a drop of glue at that location so the stick stays in place.
Now on one far end place a post 1982 cent. 1981 or older. On the far other side of the stick place your coin. If your coin is Copper, the stick will balance. If not, your coin will not allow the other side to move.
Of course the opposite will work too. Place a post 1982 Cent, 1983 and up, on the far end out the stick and your coin on the opposite far end. If they balance, yours is just a normal, but dark, modern cent.
This method makes it easy to find the real Copper 1982 ones from the plated Zinc ones.
Important thing to remember is to eat all the popscile stuff first.
