Thanks for all of the welcomes. My first question is and this has happened twice so far I got a half about a month ago and it was a 1983 p with no copper clad. I was excited to find something different the only odd thing was it had the dates 1960 and 1980 stamped in it after some research I think it is a fake coin? Well It happened again last night but this coin looks legit.

Nice looking edge check

Newbie-Pic-With-Question

The coin looks perfectly real and there is absolutly no copper clad. It is a 1971 with no mint mark, the bottom coin in the pic. Do I have something? I have checked a lot of coins and have found some no fg and other stuff but I have not found this or have I seen it mentioned.

Newbie-Pic-With-Question

On another note I was in one of the banks that saves halves for me to make a deposite and one of the tellers said they had only one roll of halves come in but I would not want them becuase they were new but they were neat looking. Well I had to buy them.

Newbie-Pic-With-Question

A full roll of proof halves from 1972 to 2011 only one was not in near prfect condition. Thanks for any input and good luck.

The 1983 coin is plated, most I have seen have a gold wash on them which for whatever reason makes the edge look silvery. I have found close to a dozen of them and they still fool me, but trust me, they aren't silver. They are just a regular coin with a gold colored wash and an added stamp with the extra dates that a company stamped into them to sell them as a commerative.

Nice proofs though...and

Thanks for the reply. The pic of the edge is of the 1972 coin which also is not clad I do not believe it is silver just missing the copper. Have you ever seen this? I can tell that the 1983 coin is not quite the same as other halves from the plating but the 73 looks the same minus the copper.

honestly I believe it is not silver either, sometimes (rarely) the copper cannot be seen on the rim, or it has been painted. Do a drop test, drop it on a counter or something you can hear the difference, if there is no difference between it and another copper then no silver. You would be able to hear the difference if there is silver

If it is not silver And is not painted or coated and it was just missing the copper is it worth anything? I will keep it regardless, but just kind of curiuse how common of a coin this is Thanks for the replies
