UK Â£1 Beale Error Note - Coin Community Forum

Anaximander Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 709 Posts	Posted 04/25/2012 11:56 am Today I picked up a series A Â£1 note signed by PS Beale, March 1950 to November 1955. I estimate condition as fine+. There is no damage, just some folds and a grubby mark. However, the back is very interesting. The left hand edge is overprinted with part of the obverse, in reverse-print. I have never seen this before, though I have only been collecting a short while. Anaximander Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 709 Posts	Posted 05/17/2012 11:01 pm This is an "A" series note, which basically remained unchanged from 1928 to 1960. In 1940 the colour changed to a bright blue, and back to green in 1948. The "C" series was introduced in 1960, green, with a picture of the Queen on it. Sorry, can't give you a pic at the moment as am at work. No "B" series was released for the Â£1, only for the Â£5, and then for just a short while. Report this Post to the Staff
DavidUK Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 2624 Posts	Posted 06/28/2012 07:57 am I have a photo of a B series Â£1...you re correct it was never released but design were worked on for that and a Â£2 note. Pressumably there are none in collectors hands but the Â£2 note was displayed in the 90's. Its a shame because the B series note is a beautiful design with the lion holding the key to the bank of England in his mouth on the reverse. Back to this note: 3,811 million of these were released but the book I have doesn't mention that error, I wonder how much value that adds to an otherwise unremarkable note.
