1847 Large Cent-Variety?

Let's see 1 not touching the bust. That could be N-1 R-3, N-10 R-3, N-13 R-4, N-34 R-6+, N-36 R-7, N-38 R-3, or N-39 R-4. That's for the ones obviously clear of the bust. For the ones barely clear you can add in N-5 R-3, N-19 R-2, N-26 R-4+, N-29 R3, and N-35 R-4. So that's six commons, two rare ones and four that are scarce.

The point of the curl over the 8 eliminates N-1, 5, 10, 19, 29, 34, and 39.

That is about as close as I can get with those pictures. You are left with N-13 R-4, N-26 R-4+, N-35 R-4, N-36 R-7, and N-38 R-3.

The problem with attributing late dates is that many of the diagnostic features are either very fine or very small and really don't show up in photographs. Then there is the problem that N-26 and 36 both have the same obv, and N-36 and 37 both have the same rev. In later die states some of them are easy to identify because they develop die cracks on the reverse but none of them have cracks in the early states and N-36 and 37 never develops cracks. So anyway the fist thing you can do is go over the reverse carefully and see if there are any die cracks present. (The problem is the only one of that group that would really command a premium is the N-36 and it DOESN'T develop cracks.)
