I withdrew 1000$ in tens two days ago and surprise, I find this 3 digit radar: It's not in the best of conditions, but it is my first one so I will keep it. I grade it as VF. Could it bring a small premium in a few years, like after we switch to polymer?

I am not sure if my statistics are correct, but I would think that for any given first four digits on a note, there is only 1 note out of the 1000 possible combinations of the last three digits that would make a radar. So I am thinking the odds of a radar of any type are 1 in a thousand. So pretty good luck on getting one in a hundred!

Smallcentguy you are correct, according to my calculations these probabilities are correct. However since there are collectors taking radars out of the circulation the probabilities are even lower than that. I would have no idea of the actual probabilities of encountering a radar and I think they change everyday as radars are found by collectors.

I found a guide on special serial #'s a while back, don't remember where. It includes rough estimates for values. Apologies for pirating the following from it. :-)
Three and Four Digit Radars: The serial number consists of only 3 or 4 digits. These are common notes. Example: 1409141, 0049400, 2533352 Price: $20 to $120 (Roughly $15-$20 over Face Value)

It's always exciting to find your first. I search 1,500-2,000 notes per day (part of my job ) and I rarely keep radars unless they are binary. I come across a lot of three digit radars and had very little interest from other collectors for them. If you wanted to sell it on ebay, you might find a buyer who collects certain number combinations. Keep looking! There's a lot of good ones floating around!

Thank you all for the info. I'm pretty much a newbie at this, but keeping only binary radars(you do mean 2 digit radars, right?) makes sense to me.
kuh_85, these prices are for UNC notes ?
ikandiggit, these notes you search daily, are they all UNC ?

Quote: ikandiggit, these notes you search daily, are they all UNC ? Nope. They are the proceeds from the VLT machines (slot machines- we have a dozen of them), delivery drivers and the restaurant and lounge. Once in a while, there will be a new stack when we convert some of the worn notes at the bank but generally, they are circulated notes. I have pulled a lot of error notes from them ie. mismatched prefixes, mismatched serial numbers, shifted serial numbers, stuck digits and an inverted serial number. I've posted most of them in previous threads.
