This topic probably belongs in the Canadian coins section, but I posted it here because I wanted to ask only US citizens this question. Non-US citizens are also welcome to answer, but my main focus is American folks because it's harder to get access to Canadian pennies.

With that out of the way, will you guys start saving every Canadian penny you find in your change or from coin roll hunting? Will you save only the copper Canadian pennies, or will you save the steel ones? Or perhaps will you not save any of them?

I think I will save a few here and there, but I will start saving more, once I start to see how hard it becomes to find them.

Always have kept whatever Canadian coinage finds itself in my pockets. So yes, but it's not doing anything different than I have been.

I buy U.S. coins from my bank, usually half dollars when they have them, and boxes of U.S. pennies ($25). I get some of the neatest things in the rolls. I have found Indian Head 1888 and 1898 pennies, a steel penny (1943), TONS of Canadian coins, too. The earliest one I can think of straight away is 1940, with George VI and not Queen Elizabeth II. Yes, I keep them all.

I bought 30 dollars of nickels tonight, I found 2 or 3 Canadian nickels in that bunch. I think if I buy any larger amount of rolls, I invariably get at least Canadian coinage in with it. I have gotten coins from the Bahamas, Honduras, and a couple of weeks ago, I found a dime from Poland, which I don't know what to make of, because it looks and feels plastic, like play money from a child's play cash register. But I enjoy the variety.

I won't be changing my habits which are to keep any that are older then 1960 and any that are in AU condition or higher. I also keep errors and varieties.

What year did Canada change their composition from copper?
Should I be saving Canadian cents?

I have a somewhat complete small Canadian cent set and some extras I put aside but since they are only going to make cents not intended for circulation, I will probably hold off on continuing the set. Seems whenever a coin starts being only available from the mint, I lose interest in the series.
If I stumble across a lot of the cents to catch up on my set down the road sometime, I might buy a run of a few years sold together to catch up but I am not going to chase after each and every new cent that comes out at a premium.

I am not a Canadian Coin collector but I've been saving all of them I get in change for as long as I've been collecting coins. I've been putting them in plastic rolls and have many of them. Some day I'll sort of try to see if I have a collection in those. I keep all pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters. I don't think I've ever seen a Canadian Half Dollar in change.

I've been pulling them to build a set from my US cent roll hunting. I have late forties through present almost complete. The oldest I've pulled is 1928.

1996 was the last year, 98% copper.

Here in Michigan, I find Canada change daily. I have kept a pretty nice collection from my finds.
