A newbie request - my apologies in advance for my ignorance, as this is not really my field.

This medal came to me some years ago in a job lot of mixed but mainly Masonic medals I bought from the estate of a deceased collector in Germany. My interest lies with the Masonic items, but there were a few non-Masonic items in there, generally I can get an idea of those from just Googling the inscription/legend, but this one has me beat!

Image below.

ID-Help-Requested-With-Medal-

The medal is in white metal, around 56mm diameter, 4mm thick and weighs 87.3 grams.

The obverse features a distinguished-looking older man in uniform with medals, having the inscription "Nobilitatum generis morum candore celebravit", while the reverse has "Gustavo Lagerfelt xc annos nato quinque per lustra sibi praefecto sodalitas liber murat ostrogotho-smolandica MCMXXII" (all text in upper-case lettering).

Any help will be gratefully received (country of origin, occasion, and even if of any value!) and I will reciprocate - where I can - with any help to identify Masonic items should anyone need that.

Thanks in anticipation, Richard

Ostrogotho-Smolandica is possibly connected with the tail end of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Given the date and the divergence of nationality in the name; Gustavo-Italiante Lagerfelt-Germanic/Slav my inclination would be to look at the area around Trieste.
The Latin by the way does not translate grammatically but does indicate that he held a position of respect. Possibly in some kind of agrarian fraternity or lodge.

The medal has a Swedish background, I think. Don't quite understand the Latin inscription, but the piece refers to two Swedish provinces: Ã-stergötland (Latin: Ostrogothia) and SmÃ¥land (Lat. Smolandia). See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Sweden

Seems that "this is him": Gustaf Axel Fredrik Lagerfelt

And that is about all I can contribute here. ;)

One more thing - Lagerfelt apparently lived in Lagerlunda, a farm near Linköping. Go here http://www.lagerlunda.se/frameset.html (site is in Swedish) and click on "Historia". There is a paragraph about "the 7th generation was Gustaf" etc. The site looks a little neglected to me, but if you click the "Vi som jobbar" link, you can even see the current farm/business owner, a certain Fredrik Lagerfelt ...

I also thought the medal looked Scandinavian, and the latinized Swedish place made sense, although I don't understand the context of the inscription when put in Google translate.

Thank you very much to all of you for your help which has allowed identification of the subject on the medal, although I have yet to find the medal itself listed anywhere.

A very impressive and helpful response for which I am grateful!
