I am attempting to compile a list of numismatic auction sites, complete with pros and cons of each. I may use this information to write a brief article or comment for submission to Coin World. If nothing else, this thread can be used as a guide for forum members.

As a means of comparison related to selling on each of these sites, consider the following scenario: selling 1 coin with a starting bid of $0.01, 7 day auction, listed in two categories, two pictures, with no special changes to the listing (e.g., bolding or highlighting the title, etc.). The coin sells for $100.00, with the resulting payout equal to $100.00 - auction fees (listing plus final sale).

Sites are listed in alphabetical order. If you can add a site, comments on any of those listed, or selling payout calculations, please contribute! I'll update this first post with additional information.

---UPDATE: Been busy with "real life" stuff for a while, will finish this eventually.

---------------------------------------------------------------

BidCoin (www.bidcoin.com)

Sales Payout: $94.85

Heritage (http://coins.ha.com)

Cons: Significant seller's and buyer's fees
Sales Payout: Difficult to determine, could use some help with this one.

coinbay.biz
I am a registered user but have never actually used the site to buy. I tried a couple of sales without much luck.

Urbid Coin auctions
Used to be a place to pick up some bargins but I think its now defunct.

www.coincommunity.com
A nice family atmosphere with some of the best people around but not much in the way of action in the auction section hopefully this will change as the membership increases.

Yahoo auctions
some coins

Overstock.com
trying to emulate all thats bad about ebay. They also keep sending you spam.

Teletrade
Cons. you don't know if the price shown is a bid or the starting price. Also their fees are higher than ebay but you get a better class of coin.

Thanks for the info, Richard. For the purposes of this list, I am interested mainly in sites specifically devoted to auctions, but will also keep track of sites with ancillary auction components (e.g., Coin Community).

Bob Martino, the owner of Coinbay, repeatedly slammed this forum with spam posts back in May. After his membership was locked, he registered under another name and started spamming the forum again. He was locked again, and banned by IP address.

Then he resorted to a barrage of harassing emails to Susan for about 2 weeks. Enough that I seriously considered consulting a lawyer.

He is also the owner of AdverFax, a company that for a fee, will use their bot to scour the net in your area for fax numbers, then pelt them with your spamfaxes.

For these reasons, I have broken the links to his site in this thread. I do not believe in supporting this site at all.

Yikes! Thanks for the info, Bobby.

I've been busy with a pile of stuff lately, but will finish this little project at some point.
