I have been putting off accumulating a Peace dollar collection and am thinking of finally putting one together. Out of all the bullion Peace dollars that I have, there are possibly some that could be put into an album. I'm not interested in putting together a graded set, just a circulating set of the best looking coins that I can. I have seen on another forum that such a set could be put together relatively inexpensively. From what I can see a full album consists of 24 coins if I am not interested in picking up any extras. So I think that it is doable, if done slowly. Anyone have an opinion?

I think that is a great idea. I have often thought of putting together a set with many of the Peace dollars I have collected over the years. Aside from the keys, depending on your budget, a complete set shouldn't set you back too much money. How many different dollars do you currently have?

If the set is of interest to you ... then go for it. It's a sufficiently small set (24 coins as you correctly stated) to be achievable ... but with enough challenges to make it interesting.
Looking forward to some photos of your progress.

I have sufficient coins that if they weren't duplicates I would have had enough to do several sets. Without counting the duplicates I have maybe 10 different coins. If condition were an issue the count would decrease from there. But at least I do have the seed pearls but no key dates.
So I think that I'll take a stab at it.

I chose the Peace dollar set when I was young as I preferred the design and it was not so daunting as as Morgan set. All were assembled by date and mint 20+ years ago but I added the last common date in 2004 and still have to acquire a 1928 p. I originally had a Whitman folder for these dollars but it was too heavy and it eventually ripped. I now have a dansco album and that pesky 1828 hole is nagging me.

I'm planning on doing the same thing. I recently purchased a 1922 that HAS to grade a 65; I'll be blown away if it grades anything lower. After picking it up for 26 bucks, I would like to make a collection.

I started mine a few months ago when silver dropped below $30. Picked up about half from the pawn shop for a little over melt. I was surprised that the 27ps,26s,34s and the 28s had as much of a premium as I found. Most books had them a little over melt but I couldn't find them any where near that. $8-$10 over melt is where they kept getting to. Still need the 28p but that will take a while.

The Peace dollar is a nice set to put together. Of you see any toned ones you should get them too. There not the easiest to find.

I've been working on the Peace dollar set for the last several months, I have 7 or 8 to go. So I say go for it, nice set. Many of the commons can be obtained reasonably in EF-AU (near melt) and Lady liberty is a beauty on this one.

Depending on what area you live in you can get most for melt. In the last year I have picked up a 26, 26s, 27, 27d, 27s in the melt bucket in Au and Ms. depends on the dealer. I used to do real well locally till the long time owner sold to a wholesaler that now takes in but sells to littleton, et al. Most of his prices for the things he does sell..for instance...he had some raw Shield nickels in Au that he wanted $180 for when for less than $100 you could get slabbed MS examples on ebay....all day and all night. Needless to say he does not sell alot out of his b and m. And the fun days are over...at that location.

I have tried this in the past when I bought collections. I ended up always reseling the Peace dollars to purchase a higher end 1800's coin. I just can't seem to hold onto them long enough :)

I only have two Peace dollars. One in my 7070 and one my grandfather gave me. Guess which one is priceless.

I just started my Peace dollar set two months ago and I have 7 holes filled. For now I have them in a old Whitman folder I picked up on ebay. I'm thinking about getting a Dansco album so you can see the reverse, but I like the way they look in the old folder. It's definitely a fun set to collect. One thing I have wondered is when it comes to the 1928 do most people recommend buying a graded coin to make sure it's authentic? Are there many counterfeits out there to be wary of?
