My wife and I were in New Orleans the other day when I decided to check out the old Mint. I grew up near New Orleans, but had never been inside the Mint. It only cost $6, but the lady didn't even charge me!

They had several type sets of every coin minted there, even an 1861-O Confederate half! There were dozens of coins recovered from the SS Central America, all slabbed and graded. The NGC slabs said "Shipwreck Effect", but they looked amazing.

I know the mint is well known for bad strikes, but the slabbed coins there were very nice. There was even a proof coin or two, which is pretty much unheard of from that mint.

Very nice.

I love american history myself and seeing the confederate half would have been amazing. Sadly I've never been able to find anything but replicas
