I have asked this question on other forums but have never received an answer to my question so I'll try here:

I have seen rolls for sale from the San Francisco Mint before and am wondering how a person can get these rolls and how they were put together.

Are these rolls the end result of a bunch of mint sets opened up and assembled by denomination or can a person get these rolls from the mint?

The US Mint does not sell any type of rolls of San Francisco-minted coins except for some of the new Silver Eagles that were minted at SF. The problem is that in order to know they were minted at San Francisco, you need to obtain a sealed monster box(25 rolls containing 20 SAEs for a total of 500oz of silver) of SAEs because they do not bear the S mintmark. Any rolls of other business strike or proof S mint coins were assembled by a collector or dealer.

biokemist6: If they are "manufactured" rolls are they really worth the premium that are being asked. For example a dealer is offering for sale a 1999-S Lincoln Cent proof roll for $60.

$60 for a roll of fifty proofs would not be a bad price at all, Numismedia lists a single 1999-S @$2.40 in PR60.
