Just noticed on danscos website that they have albums for modern commem dollars and halves. Never noticed this before.

Does anyone here keep their moderns in a dansco? I'm considering doing this, even though I only have a handful.

Can anyone share pics of their albums? It would be fun to get an idea of how they look.

I don't use albums for my modern collection as I don't want to remove the coins from their capsules and risk the scratches that come via the sliding acetate windows.

Instead, I use Lighthouse Trays -- they hold 20 silver dollars per tray (more of the half-dollars and gold coins) and make for an attractive display. The tray itself is maroon and the plastic cover/lid is a smoked gray. My complete dollar collection is housed in 4 trays, while each of my half-dollar and gold sets currently fits in 1 each.

You can have a look at them here: http://www.ihobb.com/c/LIGHTHOUSEBOXES.html

The trays make it easy to look at a large number of coins at once and also protect them nicely when showing others.

Here's a quick, horrible photo I took of one of my trays using my iPhone. (I really have to get a digital camera!)

I was considering getting one of the dansco albums for this as well, but have also been reluctant because of not wanting to remove them from their capsules. These seems to be a really good idea. Easy to move them around to if you didn't want to collect all dates.

I like the tray. Does it hold firmly with one hand? Is the lid secure with a bump? And lastly does the lid come off so you can handle the encapsulated coin? I have been looking for a desplay for my modern dollars that would not harm the coins.

@muddler: The tray is well made and stable, it can be carried with one hand w/o issue. The coins fit nicely with minimal wiggle room if you buy the right-sized coin box. The tray slides easily in and out of the protective lid/cover. The trays are also securely stackable!

For silver dollar commemoratives in the US Mint capsules, I use the Lighthouse MBCAPS41 Coin Box.
