OK, up first with a rather large mintage of 86,594 is my California. There appear to be milk spots primarily on the reverse but I can barely see them with the naked eye. Don't worry, I gave them a thorough Brillo buff before sending for grade. (just kidding).

You know of course that this series is tough to grade with the coins in hand ... so hopefully you will accept our photo-grade guesses as just that ... educated guesses. You suggested that all were on their way to PCGS ... so I will apply standards that I believe PCGS would use ... This 1925-S California Half ... IMHO ... PCGS MS64. IMHO ... The obverse suffers from bag hits on the legend "LIBERTY" ... note in particular the unfortunate "Y" and the obverse field hit directly below it. The obverse legend "GOD" also appears to have experienced some bag handling marks to its detriment. The reverse is sufficiently filled with design elements to hide most bag marks ... but I note some field and portrait hits there as well. Lovely coin ... an example of a truly historic coin that any collector would be proud to own. PCGS says ... David

You've got a great eye for this series, David, and I appreciate your willingness to share your expertise with us mere mortals. No doubt flies in the ointment so I'll happily accept MS-64 on this one. The next example I'll share has even more issues. I wonder how PCGS goes about grading such "unusual" submissions. I mean it's not like grading an ASE. I envision a crusty old guy, one who has graded over 100 coins just like it, carefully examining every nuance (minus the drool). Anyone here ever worked in this field or would they melt you down if you spilled the beans? Bill

I think it deserves at least an MS-64, so it could go MS-65 with PCGS, since they aren't as strict as they used to be. Please let us know what PCGS says, when you get the coin back. It is an awesome coin that you have!

PCGS has rendered their opinion and you folks were right on the money! MS64!
A few questions about PCGS. Should I "share" my order, and what exactly does that mean? Also, doesn't PCGS provide a photo of the graded coin on their site? If so, how do I access?
Thanks again for everyone's participation and kind comments. I look forward to sharing the grades over the next few days.
Bill

Congrats on the 64! Good eye!
I haven't made any direct submissions to PCGS yet, so I'm afraid I can't answer your questions.

Appears that I missed the call on your Bay Bridge ... but somehow managed to get this one correct. Quote: Should I "share" my order, and what exactly does that mean? Also, doesn't PCGS provide a photo of the graded coin on their site? If so, how do I access?
Shared Orders are made publicly available on a special portion of the PCGS web site where anyone can see the details of the coins submitted and their resultant grades. There is no attribution back to the submitter (you) ... just a listing of coins and grades from your order. Most folks (me included) opt out of the 'share order' option. No ... PCGS does not photograph your coin and share it on their site ... but for an additional fee (I believe $20), you can get them to take what PCGS calls TrueView photos which are then available on their website ... but the photos are not a part of your regular submission price. Hope that helps. David Edited for spllnenging
