The extremly rare German coin on Frederic the wise man, the protector of Martin Luther, is offered for 50,000 EURO on auction 123 of Kuenker:

This coin has been issued on the 400 year celebration on the reformation in Germany. The medalist Hoernlein produced this famous German coin, which has been issued in 1917 during WWI in 100 pieces only.

Hi Chrisild,

you are right, but the grading was "only" ef, the one now is proof. This makes a difference in estimated price of 10.000 EURO, not more.
Taking the offers on auctions, this is of course a coin which seems to be not that rare. It is estimated than of the 100 pieces onces strucked, about 50 pieces still exists. Some of them are circulating on different auctions. Therefore this coin is offered more often, than the total number will expect.
Regards
