I'm new to this site. I can't seem to find much information regarding the issue I had with an ebay order that was shipped to me so I was wondering if someone can provide me with some insight.
I ordered 2 Perth Mint dragon silver proofs and a silver proof coin set from a german mint from an ebay seller. One of the Perth Mint dragons plastic capsule was partially opened and as a result, dust got into the coin. On the german set of three coins, all of the capsules were opened. All of the sets were supposedly unopened. Is this normal? ie. will shipping cause the capsules to separate?
I'm a frequent customer of the Royal Canadian Mint and I ordered a lot of silver proof nclt coins (in capsules) from them. In fact, all of the capsules from the RCM did not have any dust in them nor were they ever partially opened as a result of shipping.
It happens quite a bit with U.S. Mint products as well. A more recent topic was with the 25th Anniversary American Silver Eagles last year. There were several complaints that the coins were loose in the boxes. It happens all around it seems.
Most people that ship and ebay go above and beyond to make sure they are safe while shipping. The last item I got took forever to open. I would contact the seller
If there was a return policy I would return it or exchange it. I just had a coin come with some spots on it that werent supposed to be there and the seller was more than happy to swap it for another one.
The ebay seller is responsible for the integrity of the packaging and the product. This is not "normal" and should not be accepted. Contact the seller and explain the situation to them. Your options include returning the poorly packaged product in any event.
