I have a question regarding feedback on a recent purchase I made. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what the proper thing to do is.

I purchased an '85 mint set for a nominal amount. When it arrived today the set had some (dry) white residue inside most of the coin bubbles. This did not show up on the listing photos because the set was shown on a bright white background. Also the text of the listing did not say anything about the set not being in perfect condition. I know this is not the seller's fault because it is inside the mint packaging, but identifying this on the listing would have been nice.

I emailed the seller and said that this was not acceptable and would like a refund since their stated return policy is only refunds, not replacement. I checked my email account a couple minutes ago and there is a statement from paypal saying that I have been issued a refund for the full purchase price, but there is no note, and there are no other emails from the seller, either in hotmail or via my ebay account.

I fully intend to return the set tomorrow, so that is not an issue, please don't tell me to keep it. My question is what type of feedback to leave. Should I leave neutral feedback since I did not get a good set, but was issued a refund promptly? Or should my feedback be positive because I was issued a refund so promptly? The thing is I feel a little put off by the fact there was no email apology or even an acknowledgement to go along with the refund.

I have never left negative feedback and I don't think that is necessarily warranted here. Also, the seller has 100% positive feedback and a feedback score of well over 15,000, so I don't want to tarnish his(her) on-line reputation. Does a neutral feedback hurt a seller's 100% positive status?

Thanks for any information.

I have had a similar issue before, I was issued a prompt refund, and I left a positive feedback for a cooperative seller who accept the return in a timely manner. I do not believe that a neutral feedback would be warranted for this situation since you did receive your money back...even before you returned the product.

, stuff happens, but if the seller promptly returned cost, I would leave positive feedback.

Yeah, that's pretty much the way I was leaning, but it still bothers me that they couldn't just send a message saying oops, sorry. They had to have seen this, they took photos of the set (there are enough similarities from the packaging that it looks like it wasn't a stock photo.)

I'll send the positive feedback though since it was so quick.

I would also agree that positive feedback is the way to go. Stuff happens, you don't always get what you wanted on e-bay, and it is becoming rare enough to find a seller willing to issue a refund instead of running off and hiding with your money.

And I agree, the seller not sending a note is a bit passive aggressive and rude. =(

My vote is positive feedback, but "ding" them in the communication category.

Leave Positive FB but this is the situation that the DSR ratings were created for- "Item as described" and "Communication" should probably get knocked down a couple stars.

I would leave positive feedback since the refund was painless. Things happen and he may or may not have known, you didnt get what you wanted but it was fixed quickly and easily which is all you can really ask

Positive, lower DSRs and a bit of text explaining all. That's how I've handled similar situations. You just may get an email from the seller after doing so though.

Not to make excuses for the poor communication but if he/she has over 15,000 feedbacks the seller may be quite busy. Perhaps the issuing of your refund before you even sent the set back was their way of saying sorry. I, personally, would leave them pos feedback and wouldn't be too harsh in the star category over an inexpensive item. Just my opinion.

I typically leave no feedback in these cases. I don't want to leave a positive because it wasn't a positive transaction but at the same time don't want to ding them with a neutral or DSR's because they handled the return quickly and efficiently.

I just don't understand why people shy away from leaving objective and honest feedback when transactions don't 100% meet your expectations. If you have a negative customer experience with a product purchased from a B&M store, do you tell your best friend it's a great place to go or not answer him when he asks about it simply because they accepted your return in accordance with their stated policy? As an ebay buyer, it really ticks me off that those who came before me don't provide information of which I'd like to be aware.

You got to look at the coins and decide you didn't want them and got back all of your money and promptly. I agree with speck and bio, dings in communication and not as described.

*Update*
Sorry this is several days late, but I was camping for a long weekend and was unplugged for a couple days.

I had emailed the seller basically asking why the cold shoulder and no email. He responded that he had sent me an email that he'd issue the refund and I should keep the mint set anyway if there was a problem with it. Well, I checked both ebay messages and my associated email account; no message in either. But it didn't matter because I'd already sent them back by this time. So even though his stated policy was buyer pays return shipping, he still refunded my return shipping plus a little bit extra for the inconvenience. Therefore I gladly left positive feedback with no reservations.
