Feel free to shed a tear (or a cheer?) for the almighty 1 cent coin, the last one will be coming off the line tomorrow, May 4. Funeral to be held tomorrow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please send your unwanted pennies to me. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/lo...0012115.html

I would hope that, like the first 1-cent made by the RCM in 1908, the last 1-cent produced would be given to the Bank of Canada Currency Museum.

Actually the last "circulation" 1 cent coin will cease production at that time. RCM has confirmed that the penny will live on in collectors sets. Speculation is that cent rolls will also be available as well. Be prepared you will pay a premium to get the penny either way.

I like pennies overall. The only thing I don't like about it is that it changes colour quickly.

Where did the Royal Canadian Mint confirm they will still mint pennies for collectors? I think they should get rid of it completely and try to melt them all down. If only the United States will follow next....

As far as I'm concerned, Zincolns can go away and won't be missed. Hideos things. Maybe once they do all collector cents will be made from copper instead of the circulation junk they are making right now.

Sad to see a popular motif "leave" the Coin World. I wanted to add this: on CP24 (local news station for you gringoes) the male anchor mentioned (rather proudly) that the female anchor was storing a penny of each year and cleaning them with vinegar to pass down to her heirs. How many things are wrong with that?!?! Should I even list them?

Should we have a moment of silence here on the Forums for our Canadian friends?
