Just got this 1880-S Morgan back from ANACS. Posted some pics. The reverse is PL. Minor/hairline scratches on the cheek only. What do you think they graded this Morgan?

She is a beauty. I'll say MS-65 and a very nice strike at that. Nice details in the eagles breast.

Ok, part 2 of this post: 3 people say MS-65, 1 person says MS-66, and 1 person says MS-63. Apparently ANACS also said MS-63... So I took this coin to Baltimore Whitman show. 1 dealer who only sells Morgans/VAMs said it looked "MS-65 possible". I then took it to the ANACS booth where they offer free grade appraisals. ANACS own grader told me it should go MS-65. As you can see, it came back MS-63. Not sure what happened here or what I can do about it but this coin is 100% MS-64 or better!

I'm surprised they didn't put "cleaned" on it. Why not add insult to injury.

the person that says MS-63 is a very smart man... take it out of slab and send it to NGC, they tend to grade a little higher than PCGS? Maybe those black marks near rim affected grade?

Ok well I am going to let this one go. Someone has recently pointed out to me the subtle contact marks in the field of this Morgan. That is probably what kept this coin from going beyond MS-63, which I am willing to accept. I am actually surprised that so many people missed it. ANACS did exactly what I paid them to do and for that I respect them.
Thanks for looking.

Obverse carbon spots may have hurt it too. It's a 64 on a given day for sure.
