I had the oppertunity to grab 300 SBA dollars from a local bank. Funny story about that.
I walked in to cash a pay check and I told them I wanted to be paid in silver dollars. I was truely joking about that, however, the clerk told me they have more silver dollars than the value of my check. I told them I'd take 300. At this point, of course, I was a little giddy that I just might get silver dollars. What I got was 300 SBA dollars. Not complaining at all about that.

Gone through the whole bag and this is the tally for what I knew to look for.

1999 - 8 all mint marks
Full Talons and BU 1979-1981 - 12
1979 "Near Date" variety - 2

All the rest went back into my "educate young clerks about US currency" project.

All in all, not a bad haul. I went back the next time I was paid expecting to buy the rest. I was shocked when they told me that they have never had SBA dollars and couldn't ever get any. ..?! They acted like it never happened. Not sure what that was about. Perhaps I wasn't supposed to get those coins? I'll never know.

Perhaps they don't know what Susan B. Anthony dollars are, thought they were actually giving you silver dollars, and were confused by your asking about some lady being on the dollar.

Never assume conspiracy* when ignorance can answer the call, I say.

*Conspiracy used loosely here.

Also, nice haul. 8 mint marks on the 1999? Could you elaborate for me?

I think he means that he found 8 1999s, and they all had mintmarks.

That would make sense. I was thinking "There were only two mint marks for 1999, what's going on?"

Are 1999s hard to find? I get them at work all the time.

Sounds like a nice variety, though! Weird story, too . . .

Which is to be expected because they didn't make any without mintmarks.
